6 month update

In the past month or so, Egan has really started to 'grow up.' He can now sit basically unsupported. He likes to hang out in his mosses basket or in a rubbermade tub in the yard. He loves books, they taste so good! He can accurately reach with one hand for an object. He can take his paci out of his mouth, turn it around, play with it, and then figure out how to put it back in.

He's not a big fan of laying down, he really likes to sit up like a big boy! He doesn't really roll over, because he isn't interested on being on his tummy or back long enough to work on it. But he is starting to lean quite a bit and that will probably be what moves him to the next set of skills as he reaches for things.

Egan still nurses ~8 times a day, but also does really well taking a bottle. (yeah!) He goes to bed at about 8pm and wakes up between 7-8 most mornings. He eats several times at night still. He likes to be swaddled to sleep. He can sometimes put himself to sleep at nap or night - but never when sister is home! Too much to try and keep up with. Egan started eating solid foods - he's had rice cereal (terrible), pears, applesauce, prunes, oatmeal, squash, sweet potatoes, and wheat cereal. He is still deciding if these are beauty products or food substances and likes to rub them into his neck folds. About 1 in 4 times he will 'eat' the rest of the time he plays around. Right now we have breakfast and dinner.

Egan loves his nanny, Ashley. He will just sink into her when she arrives. Ashley comes 4 afternoons a week. They like to hang out on the play mat and go for walks. He'd better get on crawling if he wants to take advantage of her varsity college soccer experience!

Last appointment, just a few days before his 6 mo birthday, he was 15 lbs, 25 inches, still hanging out in the 20 percentile. He's mostly wearing 3-6 month clothes, but some 6-9 shirts, etc. He's hair is still thin - sometimes I wonder (hope?) if it looks a bit red in the sunlight. He has an impish grin and can raise on eyebrow for emphasis and encouragement to do things like hand him another magazine to rip up. He is very ticklish - especially in his arm pits and back.

The big 6 months for Egan

On March 24th, Egan turned 6 months old! He celebrated with his first airplane ride:

And taxi ride:

To come with me to Houston, Texas for the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. We were met there by my mom, who spent 3 days taking care of Egan so I could go to the conference. Egan had a GREAT time with Gram. They had morning cuddles, ate pears, strolled. I find it a little stressful to travel alone with Egan, but it was great not to have to leave him again.

On Friday night, there was some sort of astronomical alignment and not only could my dad drive down, but so could Seth and Michele, and my Aunt Kim happened to be in Houston visiting my cousin Derek who had just moved there! We all had dinner together!

<< I'm having trouble importing all the cute pictures - so I'll have to post them later >>

Egan got to hang out with little opa

and take a snooze on Aunt Shell.

It was a big (annoying) return trip home when we got stranded in Washington DC and it looked like instead of arriving at 5 pm Saturday as scheduled, it would be 8pm Sunday or more likely sometime Monday morning. It was 11pm on Saturday night--I had a hungry, tired baby with me. I was exhausted. Luckily I met another stranded Roanoke passenger, we rented a car together and made to 5 hour drive home. I got in at 5 am. It basically took me all week to recover!

Right before our trip, Jake's Uncle Bob and Aunt Mia visited for the afternoon - we all enjoyed the warm sun.

Happy Easter!

It was a beautiful and sunny Easter Sunday here.

We started off the morning with an egg hunt in the living room. Elena was incredibly patient because Jake made breakfast, letting me sleep in with our little morning snoozer bear, Egan. So poor Elena had to wait for the official basket dive in and egg hunt until we woke up!

Elena went after the eggs.

The Bun thought ahead and left three large clear eggs with pacifiers for Egan. He was happy.

Luckily Egan had his sister to help with his basket.

But don't worry, sister had plenty of goodies her self.

Then we headed to church with Xander and Rita, his Dutch Oma. Another egg hunt!

Egan didn't wear his PJ's all day - we kept him in this adorable sweater vest all day.
